| Accommodations: Groups typically stay in the new 32-person dorm style youth cabins that feature 16 bunk beds in each of the two rooms connected by a meeting space, with two large, clean bathrooms. Another set of youth dorms are available closer to the dining room, and they hold 96 people total in six rooms featuring 16 bunk beds in each room. Bathrooms for the dorms are large and just down the open deck. Semi-private cabins are also available for an extra fee.
Dining Room: All locations offer all-you-can-eat meals in climate-controlled dining rooms. DaySpring typically provides a buffet including at least two entrée choices and extensive salad bar, including soup, and freshly baked deserts and ice cream bar. Beverages are self-service and include several juices, fruit punch, lemonade, tea and coffee. A soda machine is on-site for your convenience. Challenge Course: A permanent low-ropes course is well maintained and shaded by a grove of large live oak trees. Twelve elements are available for intense team-building exercises. High Ropes Course: This dynamic course features seven elements, a climbing tower and zip line, with all required safety gear. Dynamic high ropes courses provide additional opportunities for participants to cooperate and learn climbing skills in five-person belay teams. Four participants comprise the ground crew and use belay devices to support a single climber. Each belay team is rigorously trained and closely supervised by a certified high ropes instructor. Manatee River: The DaySpring waterfront is on a small inlet with direct access to the Manatee River, close enough to the Gulf of Mexico to be in the estuarine zone. A new dock was completed in summer 2003 and canoe excursions feature a tour of the estuary, including a visit to see an eagle’s nest. Up to 22 canoes are available per class period, each carrying 2-3 people. Paddles and U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices are provided. Recreational Equipment: DaySpring features a sports complex area dedicated to recreational activities including two tennis courts, volleyball, basketball and a large open field. Two residential sized swimming pools are also available (site map). Ecosystem: Several nature trails meander through upland forests of palm and oak hammocks. Other trails follow along the reed-covered marsh along the Manatee River. Marsh rabbits, eagles and wading birds are frequently seen. Affiliation: DaySpring Conference Center is a non-profit organization affiliated with the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida. Due to this affiliation, DaySpring offers an indoor and outdoor chapel, and a Stations of the Cross nature walk, for worship and meditation. Participants are welcome to make use of these facilities during times when they are not participating in Pathfinder programs. Pathfinder Outdoor Education has no religious affiliation nor do we offer, support or focus any programs on spiritual or religious topics. |
